Jail Break

Traveler wakes painfully to find himself in jail cell. There are several others in the cell with him. The cell is solid stone all around, save for a covered grate in the ceiling.

A motley collection of cellmates greets Traveler and he learns he has been in here several days. They weren’t sure if he was ever going to regain consciousness. There is a large orc, Garazar, who intimidates the other prisoners into letting him take the majority of the food dropped into the cell.

Traveler inquires as to his friend Tiberius Able and no one has any idea, but a young skinny boy, JoJo, tells Traveler that a odd piece of lumpy leather was seen being poked and prodded and eventually tossed away.

There is tiefling, Azmiran Vangvir, who seems unconcerned that she is scheduled for execution in the morning. As well as a monk-like Eladrin, Koltira Dawnweaver, who informs Traveler that the cell seems to have some sort of anti-magic field around it, as no one can seem to pull magic from the weave here. A satyr, Nox, tries to lift everyone’s spirits by singing, his hands continually seeking to strum a missing lyre.

As evening approaches, the sound of metal scaping tells the inmates that food is going to be lowered down into the cell. The orc, Garazar, stands and seems to invite anyone to challenge him in obtaining food. Traveler stands up to him, telling him that others here are starving, gesturing to the frail looking Jojo. Garazar then scoops a handful of gruel from the pot and throws it at JoJo, hitting him in the face. Jojo tries to scoop as much of it as he can into his mouth, but almost immediately falls asleep.

A scuffle ensues as the others in the cell rush Garazar and begin grabbing handfuls of food. Traveler notices that JoJo has fallen unconscious and others are quick to follow. He tells the others not to touch the food, as Garazar begins to sway and finally collapse.

Only four remain conscious, Traveler, Nox, Koltira and the tiefling thief, Azmiran. Azmiran seems un-surprised. Eventually, the sound of metal scraping reveals that the metal plate above the grate, leading out of the cell has been pulled back. When the four of them eventually get out of the cell, some by climbing up a mountain a piled unconscious bodies, they find several guards unconscious. One guard, near a corridor, nods to Azmiran while exposing the inside of his wrist to her, revealing a tattoo, then leaves. Azmiran too holds her wrist up exposing the exact same tattoo.

Azmiran, as recompense for aiding her in her escape, she tells the others of the escape route at the far end of the prison, through the sewers. The others say they must find their belongings. She tells them that their belongings will be in the locked storage locker in the other direction…..towards the guards barracks. And with that she leaves.

The rest of the escapees move towards the sound of guards and find themselves at the storage room. The door is locked but Koltira, now able to access magic, moves and bends the stone around the door latch. They move inside as they hear guards approaching. Quickly finding their gear, as well as grabbing other belongings as they can, they retreat…now quickly being pursued by guards.

Some of the guards are stuck in the liquified ground, which Koltira transforms from the stone floor, then quickly solidifying it around their feet, while throwing up blocks of stone to aid in their retreat. Unable to don his armor Traveler moves quickly by summoning his spirit aid, Echo, ahead of him and then swapping places in the blink of an eye.

Soon they are at a sewer grate in the far end of the prison, which looks like it is reserved for ‘interrogations’. Jumping down into the sewers, Nox begins to move forward looking for any hint of where Azimar might have gone. They soon find a wall section which has the faint marking of the tattoo symbol she had worn. Pushing at the wall it moves and allows them entrance. Closing the wall section behind them they move down and down a rough hewn set of stairs in the rock until they come to a nicely excavated and carved chamber.
At the far end of the chamber are two doors and standing in the middle of the chamber are two large obelisks which crackel with energy. Traveler moves to the far end and tries one of the unlocked doors. Behind the door is just a wall of rock but the sound of mechanisms somewhere behind the walls begins and sand pours from the celing at an incredible rate.

Nox becons Traveler quickly to stand with the others between the obelisks as he presses some arcane symbol on the obelisk. Traveler moves as quickly as he can through the ever deepening sand and arrives just as magical energy fills the space inbetween the obelisks and they are transported out of the trapped room.

They arrive in a dark and dank rocky chamber filled with similar magical stones. Moving out of the chamber they find themselves greeted by Azmiran. She stands beside a cloaked and hooded figure. On a slab of metal before them lies an illithid-like creature. The same one that Traveler encountered and killed before. The top of its skull removed exposing its brain. Chained along the wall are 3 creatures, their limbs chitinous and almost metal like. They do not move. And floating just beyond the hooded figure floats a creature with many tentacles, each ending in a eye, clouded with a cataract haze.

The hooded figure calls itself Nihiloor and it serves the great Xantahar. He thanks them for aiding Azmiran in escaping. But now that they are here they can either join the ranks of the Xanathar Thieves guild or die.

They choose to join and in doing so, Nihiloor has a mission for them.
